Florida is a leader in protecting its schoolchildren

Florida continues to ward off efforts by the Far Left to teach hate and homosexuality in government schools, and liberal heads are exploding as a result.

Gov. Ron DeSantis has led the defense of Florida children. He is castigated daily by Florida newspaper editorial writers, whose influence is waning even if their volume is not.

DeSantis and the state Dept. of Education recently rejected an Advance Placement course in African American Studies proposed by the College Board.

In a letter explaining the rejection, the state said the course was contrary to Florida law and lacked educational value.

As the Florida Standard explained, the course is packed with Critical Race Theory (CRT), “intersectionality” and queer theory.

These are all Marxist teachings that seek to portray Americans with black skins as victims and those with white skins as oppressors, and also to groom young students in sexual topics such as gender and homosexuality that are not appropriate for their age.

Parents who deplore these false teachings helped elect DeSantis and a majority in the Florida Legislature and are getting results.

Last week the Board of Education met in Nassau County and took several pro-family positions.

New rules will, for example, require school librarians and media specialists to have annual training on how to choose schoolbooks.

When books that are not appropriate are rejected, liberals scream about “censorship.” This inaccurate response is evidence that the state is on the right track.

At the meeting, Kathleen Murray, who is director for the Duval County chapter of County Citizens Defending Freedom, asked the board to “tighten the language because many of these books contain explicit language and how-to manuals on how to conduct homosexual activities on each other.”

The board also voted unanimously to adopt a motion affirming the education commissioner’s position that federal Title IX does not apply to transgender students.

Board Member Esther Byrd of Jacksonville made the motion. “I believe reading sexual orientation and gender identity into Title IX is not only legally incorrect, but it undermines the intent of Title IX,” she said.

Critical Race Theory also was condemned by the state colleges. Florida State College at Jacksonville President John Avendano told the board the colleges would not fund or support any policy that compels belief in CRT.

DeSantis also recently required all colleges and universities to submit details about diversity, equity and inclusion programs, which are another device used to teach anti-Americanism.
